Gottman Method for Couples

The Gottman Method is a research-based approach to couples therapy designed to strengthen relationships by improving communication, deepening emotional connection, and building lasting trust. Developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, this method is based on over 40 years of scientific research on what makes relationships succeed or fail. It helps couples break negative cycles, manage conflict effectively, and create a fulfilling partnership built on love, respect, and understanding.

How does it work?

Couples begin with a thorough assessment of their relationship, which includes structured interviews and an evidence-based questionnaire to identify strengths and challenges. From there, therapy focuses on practical tools and interventions to improve relationship dynamics, using the Sound Relationship House framework.

This model emphasises key relationship skills such as:

  • Building Love Maps (knowing each other deeply)

  • Nurturing Fondness & Admiration

  • Turning Toward Instead of Away (strengthening emotional responsiveness)

  • Managing Conflict in a Healthy Way

  • Creating Shared Meaning & Life Goals

Benefits of the Gottman Method

Whether you’re looking to improve your relationship, repair emotional wounds, or prevent future challenges, the Gottman Method provides practical, proven strategies to help couples thrive.  Benefits of this unique and highly successful approach include:

  • Better Communication – Learn to express needs clearly and listen with understanding.

  • Stronger Emotional Connection – Deepen intimacy and trust with your partner.

  • Effective Conflict Resolution – Gain tools to navigate disagreements constructively.

  • Repair & Rebuild Trust – Heal from past hurts and strengthen commitment.

  • Long-Term Relationship Success – Develop habits that sustain love and partnership.

How does it compare to other relationship therapy models?

As one of the most research-backed approaches to couples therapy, studies indicate a success rate of approximately 75-80% when couples actively engage in the process, higher than any other method studied, with high levels of couples reporting improved relationship satisfaction, better communication, and greater emotional connection after completing therapy.

Don't stay trapped in patterns of conflict, hurt and distress.

Make the commitment to invest in your relationship before it's too late and book in for your first Gottman Method session today.
